OET (OET-RV) Those are Yisra’el’s twelve sons (that led to the twelve tribes) and that’s what their father said to them from his bed as he blessed each one of them—each one blessed appropriately.

uW Translation Notes:

כָּל אֵ֛לֶּה שִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל שְׁנֵ֣ים עָשָׂ֑ר

all/each/any/every these tribes Yisrael two ten

This clause refers back to Jacob’s sons who are mentioned in verses 1-27. Alternate translation: “Those twelve sons are the forefathers of the twelve tribes that came from Israel,”

וְ֠זֹאת אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּ֨ר לָהֶ֤ם אֲבִיהֶם֙

and,this which/who he/it_had_said to/for=them father,their

Alternate translation: “and those were the words that their father spoke to them.”

וַיְבָ֣רֶךְ

and=he/it_blessed

Consider whether or not it is better in your language to begin a new sentence here. Alternate translation: “when he blessed”

אוֹתָ֔ם אִ֛ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֥ר

DOM,them (a)_man which/who

Alternate translation: “each of them” or “each son”

כְּבִרְכָת֖וֹ בֵּרַ֥ךְ אֹתָֽם

with,blessing,him blessing DOM=them

Alternate translation: “with blessings that were right for them and their descendants.” or “in a way that was fitting for them and their descendants.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

49:28 These prophecies are broad in scope, foretelling the future of the different tribes in general terms. Individuals, by faith and obedience, could find great blessing from God regardless of what happened to their clan.
