uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

וַיַּ֤רְא מְנֻחָה֙ כִּ֣י ט֔וֹב וְאֶת הָאָ֖רֶץ כִּ֣י נָעֵ֑מָה

and=he/it_saw resting_place that/for/because/then/when good and=DOM the=earth/land that/for/because/then/when pleasant

Alternate translation: “They will have a good place to live, in a enjoyable land.”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

וַיֵּ֤ט שִׁכְמוֹ֙

and,bowed shoulder,his

Consider what is the best way to translate this Hebrew idiom in your language. Alternate translation: “However, you will also have to exert yourselves” or “But you will work hard”

לִסְבֹּ֔ל

to,burden

Alternate translation: “to carry heavy loads,”

וַיְהִ֖י לְמַס עֹבֵֽד

and=he/it_was at,forced_labor tilling_of

Consider whether or not it is better in your language to begin a new sentence here. Alternate translation: “In fact, you will be forced to be slaves.” or “They will have to work very hard for others as slaves.” or “People will force you to be their slaves.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

49:1-28 Jacob, by faith and as God’s spokesman, looked forward to Israel’s settlement in the land, and beyond that to the glorious future. Here at the end of the patriarchal age, he foretold what would happen to each tribe as he evaluated his sons one by one, just as Noah had done at the end of the primeval era (cp. 9:25-27). The character and acts of each ancestor affected the lives of his descendants (Exod 20:5-6; 34:6-7; Num 14:18; Jer 32:18).
