Non est enim ibi discretio an Judæus sit an Græcus, Barbarus an Scytha, servus an liber: quia per omnia et in omnibus Christus, qui formam servi induit, et pro libero et pro servo servivit, ut omnibus æquale donum largiatur. 49:28 These prophecies are broad in scope, foretelling the future of the different tribes in general terms. Individuals, by faith and obedience, could find great blessing from God regardless of what happened to their clan.


UTNuW Translation Notes:

כָּל אֵ֛לֶּה שִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל שְׁנֵ֣ים עָשָׂ֑ר

all/each/any/every these tribes Yisrael two ten

This clause refers back to Jacob’s sons who are mentioned in verses 1-27. Alternate translation: “Those twelve sons are the forefathers of the twelve tribes that came from Israel,”

וְ֠⁠זֹאת אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּ֨ר לָ⁠הֶ֤ם אֲבִי⁠הֶם֙

and,this which/who he/it_had_said to/for=them father,their

Alternate translation: “and those were the words that their father spoke to them.”

and=he/it_blessed
