BrTrAnd they came and told Josaphat, saying, There is come against thee a great multitude from Syria, from beyond the sea; and, behold, they are in Asasan Thamar, this is Engadi.

ULTAnd they came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from Aram. And behold, they are in Hazezon Tamar,” that is, Engedi.[fn]


Instead of Aram, some ancient and modern versions have Edom.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

20:2 Translating the word as Edom instead of Aram is consistent with the Chronicler’s later description of the armies (20:10, 22-23) and with the geographical description of the attack from the southeast through En-gedi. (Aram was northeast of Judah.)
