TSNTyndale Study Notes:

32:4-5 Continuing to resist the Babylonians was hopeless; it would result in disaster for the city and for Zedekiah.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) he will certainly be given into the hand of the king of Babylon

(Some words not found in UHB: and,Zedekiah king Yehuda not escape out_of,hand the=Kasdim that/for/because/then/when to_be_given he_will_be_given in/on/at/with,hand king Babel and,speak mouth_of,him with mouth_of,him and,eye,him DOM eye,him see )

The word “hand” is a metonym for the power or control that the hand exercises. Alternate translation: “I will certainly put him under the control of the king of Babylon”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche

(Occurrence 0) His mouth will speak to the king’s mouth, and his eyes will see the king’s eyes

Here “mouth” and “eyes” represent the whole person. Alternate translation: “Zedekiah himself will see and directly speak with Nebuchadnezzar”
