uW Translation Notes:

שַׂ֣ר הַמַּשְׁקִ֔ים

chief the,cupbearer

Consider again how you translated chief of the cupbearers and “cupbearer” in the book of Genesis. See Gen 40:1-2, 5, 9, 13, 20-21, 23; 41:9. Alternate translation: “But the head wine-server”

Note 1 topic: writing-quotations

וַיְדַבֵּר֙ שַׂ֣ר הַמַּשְׁקִ֔ים אֶת־פַּרְעֹ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר

and=he/it_spoke chief the,cupbearer DOM Farˊoh to=say

Consider again how you translated chief of the cupbearers and “cupbearer” in the book of Genesis. See Gen 40:1-2, 5, 9, 13, 20-21, 23; 41:9. Alternate translation: “But the head wine-server spoke up and said to Pharaoh,” or “But the head wine-server said to Pharaoh,”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / honorifics

אֲנִ֖י מַזְכִּ֥יר הַיּֽוֹם

I remember the=day

For many languages, it is necessary to use a respectful title to address a person of high status like Pharaoh. Do what is best in your language. Alternate translation: “Your Majesty I now remember”

אֶת חֲטָאַ֕י

DOM DOM faults,my

The Hebrew text is ambiguous here. It could mean: (1) “the time when I offended/displeased/wronged you.” or (2) “something important I failed/forgot to do.” The second interpretation refers to the cupbearer forgetting to tell Pharaoh about Joseph. Alternate translation: “my sins”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

41:1-46 God had used two dreams to identify Joseph as a leader among his brothers (37:5-11). He used two dreams to test Joseph’s faith in prison (40:5-14). Now he would use two dreams to elevate Joseph from prison to preeminence. Joseph had repeatedly proven faithful in small matters; now he would be put in charge of great things.
