OET (OET-LV)And_he/it_said Farˊoh to Yōşēf a_dream I_have_dreamed and_interpret there_[is]_not DOM_him/it and_I I_have_heard of_you to_say you_hear a_dream to_interpret DOM_him/it.

OET (OET-RV)who told him, “I had a dream but no one could interpret it. However, I heard that you could listen to a dream and explain what it means.”

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-quotations

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר פַּרְעֹה֙ אֶל יוֹסֵ֔ף

and=he/it_said Farˊoh to/towards Yōşēf/(Joseph)

Alternate translation: “Then Pharaoh told him,”

וּפֹתֵ֖ר אֵ֣ין אֹת֑וֹ

and,interpret not DOM=him/it

See how you translated a similar clause in Gen 40:8.

וַאֲנִ֗י שָׁמַ֤עְתִּי עָלֶ֨יךָ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר

and,I I_heard of,you to=say

Alternate translation: “But I was told”

תִּשְׁמַ֥ע חֲל֖וֹם לִפְתֹּ֥ר אֹתֽוֹ

hear (a)_dream to,interpret DOM=him/it

Consider again how you translated interpret and “interpreter” throughout the book of Genesis. See Gen 40:8, 16, 22; 41:8, 12, 13, 15, 16. Alternate translation: “that when you hear a dream, you are able to interpret what it means.” or “that when someone tells you a dream, you are able to interpret its meaning.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

41:1-46 God had used two dreams to identify Joseph as a leader among his brothers (37:5-11). He used two dreams to test Joseph’s faith in prison (40:5-14). Now he would use two dreams to elevate Joseph from prison to preeminence. Joseph had repeatedly proven faithful in small matters; now he would be put in charge of great things.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
