OET (OET-LV) Concerning what will_you(pl)_be_struck again will_you(pl)_increase rebellion all_of the_head to_sick and_all the_heart is_faint.
OET (OET-RV) Why do you want more beatings?
⇔ ≈Why do you keep rebelling?
⇔ Your whole head is sick,
⇔ ≈and your motivation is weak.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism
Isaiah speaks to the people of Judah in the form of a poem.
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion
(Occurrence 0) Why are you still being beaten? Why do you rebel more and more?
(Some words not found in UHB: on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in what? beaten again/more continue rebellion all/each/any/every head to,sick and=all heart faint )
Isaiah uses these questions to scold the people of Judah. The questions can be translated as statements. This can also be stated in active form. Alternate translation: “You keep doing things that Yahweh has to punish you for. You continue to rebel against him.” (See also: figs-activepassive)
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / you
(Occurrence 0) you
(Some words not found in UHB: on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in what? beaten again/more continue rebellion all/each/any/every head to,sick and=all heart faint )
Here the word “you” refers to the people who live in Judah and so is plural.
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
(Occurrence 0) The whole head is sick, the whole heart is weak
(Some words not found in UHB: on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in what? beaten again/more continue rebellion all/each/any/every head to,sick and=all heart faint )
This metaphor compares the nation of Israel to a person who has been beaten. Alternate translation: “You are like someone whose head is wounded and whose heart is weak” or “You are like someone whose whole mind and heart are sick”
1:5 God sent famine, war, disease, and death as punishment. In most cases, however, God wanted to change stubborn behavior rather than simply to punish.
• As a result of their persistent rebellion, the people’s head is injured and their heart is sick. The nation was wounded physically from Assyrian aggression, while spiritually they were defiled and overtaken by sin (64:6).
OET (OET-LV) Concerning what will_you(pl)_be_struck again will_you(pl)_increase rebellion all_of the_head to_sick and_all the_heart is_faint.
OET (OET-RV) Why do you want more beatings?

⇔ Your whole head is sick,
⇔ ≈and your motivation is weak.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
