OET (OET-LV) Hear Oh_heavens and_listen Oh_earth if/because YHWH he_has_spoken children I_have_brought_up and_brought_up and_they they_have_rebelled in/on/at/with_me.
OET (OET-RV) Hear, heavens, and listen, earth, because Yahweh has spoken:
⇔ “I’ve raised sons and brought them up,
⇔ ^but they’ve rebelled against me.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism
Isaiah speaks to the people of Judah in the form of a poem.
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / apostrophe
(Occurrence 0) Hear, heavens, and give ear, earth
(Some words not found in UHB: hear heavens and, listen earth/land that/for/because/then/when YHWH spoken sons reared and,brought_~_up and, they rebelled in/on/at/with,me )
Although these prophecies were meant for the people of Jerusalem and Judah to hear, Isaiah knows they will not listen. This could mean: (1) he speaks in apostrophe, as though the “heavens” and “earth” would be able to listen to what Yahweh said, or (2) the words “heavens” and “earth” are metonyms and a merism for all living beings everywhere. Alternate translation: “you who live in the heavens … you who live on the earth” (See also: figs-personification and figs-merism)
(Occurrence 0) Yahweh
(Some words not found in UHB: hear heavens and, listen earth/land that/for/because/then/when YHWH spoken sons reared and,brought_~_up and, they rebelled in/on/at/with,me )
This is the name of God that he revealed to his people in the Old Testament. See the translationWord page about Yahweh concerning how to translate this.
(Occurrence 0) I have nourished and brought up children, but they have rebelled against me
(Some words not found in UHB: hear heavens and, listen earth/land that/for/because/then/when YHWH spoken sons reared and,brought_~_up and, they rebelled in/on/at/with,me )
Words that Yahweh spoke and which Isaiah is speaking to the Israelites for Yahweh.
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
(Occurrence 0) I have nourished and brought up children
(Some words not found in UHB: hear heavens and, listen earth/land that/for/because/then/when YHWH spoken sons reared and,brought_~_up and, they rebelled in/on/at/with,me )
Yahweh speaks as if his words were food and as if the Israelites were his children. Alternate translation: “I have taken care of the people living in Judah like they were my children”
1:2 heavens . . . earth: All of creation is called to witness the trial that God convened against Judah (cp. Deut 31:28; 32:1).
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
