uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

(Occurrence 0) Can the spoils be taken from the warrior, or captives be rescued from the fierce?

(Some words not found in UHB: ?,taken from, mighty prey and=if captives law-abiding/just rescued )

Isaiah uses a question to express the difficulty of taking anything from a mighty soldier or a very strong warrior. If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “A person cannot take the spoils from a warrior or rescue captives from fierce soldiers.” (See also: figs-activepassive)

(Occurrence 0) spoils

(Some words not found in UHB: ?,taken from, mighty prey and=if captives law-abiding/just rescued )

valuable items taken from the losers in a battle

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

49:24 Who can snatch . . . Who can demand: The people considered it nearly impossible that they would be rescued from their oppressors.
