The Hebrew title of this book בְּרֵאשִׁית (pronounced “bereshith”) is the first Hebrew word in [verse 1](../01/01.md) and literally means “In the beginning.” The Latin translation of the Bible (the Latin Vulgate) was the first translation to use the title “The Book of Genesis.” Since that time, many other translations include “Genesis” in the book title because people are familiar with that name. Sometimes, as part of the title, translators also include the fact that Moses was the author and that he was inspired by God.
