OET (OET-LV)And_they_saw brothers_his DOM_that DOM_him/it he_loved father_their from_all brothers_his and_hated DOM_him/it and_not they_were_able speak_him on_terms_kind.

OET (OET-RV)When his brothers saw that their father loved Yosef more than all of his brothers, they hated him and couldn’t make themselves say anything nice to him.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns

וַֽיִּשְׂנְא֖וּ אֹת֑וֹ וְלֹ֥א יָכְל֖וּ דַּבְּר֥וֹ לְשָׁלֹֽם

and,hated DOM=him/it and=not could speak,him on_~_terms,kind

Make sure it is clear here in your translation that the brothers hated Joseph, not their father. Alternate translation: “they despised Joseph so much that they could not speak to him kindly” or “… they refused to speak to him in a kind way.” or “… they always spoke unkindly to him.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

37:4 Jacob’s favoritism toward Joseph inflamed his other sons’ hatred of their brother. Just as Isaac’s and Rebekah’s favoritism had separated their family, Jacob’s favoritism would separate him from his son Joseph.
