OET (OET-LV)And_tore Yaˊₐqoⱱ/(Jacob) clothes_his and_he/it_assigned sackcloth in/on/at/with_loins_his and_mourned on his/its_son days many.

OET (OET-RV) Then Yacob ripped his clothes and put sackcloth around his waist, and he mourned for his son many days.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: translate-symaction

וַיִּקְרַ֤ע יַעֲקֹב֙ שִׂמְלֹתָ֔יו

and,tore Yaakob clothes,his

See how you translated tore his clothes in verse 29. Alternate translation: “Then Jacob tore his clothes in sorrow,” or “Jacob was so grieved that he tore his clothes,”

Note 2 topic: translate-unknown

וַיָּ֥שֶׂם שַׂ֖ק בְּמָתְנָ֑יו

and=he/it_assigned sackcloth in/on/at/with,loins,his

It was a Hebrew custom to wear sackcloth, which was a rough/coarse garment made/woven from black goats’ hair, to show that the person was mourning for someone’s death. If this custom is not familiar in your culture, you could put that information in a footnote. Alternate translation: “put on sackcloth,”

וַיִּתְאַבֵּ֥ל עַל בְּנ֖וֹ יָמִ֥ים רַבִּֽים

and,mourned on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in his/its=son days many

See how you translated “mourn” in Gen 27:41. Alternate translation: “and for many days he grieved that his son had died.” or “and for a very long time he grieved because his son was gone.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

37:31-35 The old family propensity for deception seized the brothers’ imagination. Jacob had killed a young goat to deceive Isaac (27:5-17); now Jacob’s sons deceived him with a goat (see study note on 30:34-36).
