UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא

in_the=day (the)=that

Isaiah is using on that day as a common expression of the culture to mean “at that time.” If this phrase does not have that meaning for your readers, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [when that happens]

Note 2 topic: writing-pronouns

וְאָמַר֙

and=saying(ms)

The pronoun one refers to people in general. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [And people will say]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא

in_the=day (the)=that

Isaiah is using the term day to refer to a specific time. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. See the UST.

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

הִנֵּ֨ה

see/lo/see!

The speakers are using the term Behold to focus their listeners’ attention on what they are about to say. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation. Alternate translation: [Look] or [Listen]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

אֱלֹהֵ֥ינוּ

God_of,[is]_our

The speakers are using the possessive form our God to indicate that Yahweh is the God whom they worship. If a speaker of your language would not use the possessive form for this, you could express this idea in another way. Alternate translation: [is God to us]

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

אֱלֹהֵ֥ינוּ זֶ֛ה קִוִּ֥ינוּ ל֖וֹ וְיֽוֹשִׁיעֵ֑נוּ זֶ֤ה יְהוָה֙ קִוִּ֣ינוּ ל֔וֹ נָגִ֥ילָה וְנִשְׂמְחָ֖ה בִּישׁוּעָתֽוֹ

God_of,[is]_our this waited to=him/it and,he,will_save_us this YHWH waited to=him/it rejoice and,let_us_rejoice in,salvation_of,his

These two clauses mean basically the same thing. The first phrase states the general idea, and then the second phrase gives a specific example. Translate these phrases according to the decisions your team has made regarding translating parallelism in Hebrew poetry. Alternate translation: [this is our God; we waited for him, and he saved us. Indeed, this is Yahweh; we waited for him, let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation]

Note 7 topic: figures-of-speech / doublet

נָגִ֥ילָה וְנִשְׂמְחָ֖ה

rejoice and,let_us_rejoice

The terms be glad and rejoice mean similar things. The speakers are using the two terms together for emphasis. If it would be clearer for your readers, you could express the emphasis with a single phrase. Alternate translation: [let us rejoice joyfully]

Note 8 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

בִּישׁוּעָתֽוֹ

in,salvation_of,his

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of salvation, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [because he has saved us]
