UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

כִּי֩ הִנֵּ֨ה

that/for/because/then/when see/lo/see!

The word translated as For indicates that what follows is a reason for what came before. Use a connector in your language that makes it clear that what follows is a reason for what came before. Alternate translation: [This is the reason:]

Note 2 topic: writing-poetry

מַשְׁעֵ֖ן וּמַשְׁעֵנָ֑ה

supply and,support

As the Hebrew prophets did on many occasions, in this chapter Isaiah emphasizes a point by using words together that have very similar sounds. The words translated as “supply” and “support” differ in just one letter. It is often difficult to reproduce this kind of word play in another language, but if your language does have similar terms that you can use in this instance, as the ULT does, it would be appropriate to do that in your translation. If not, you could show the emphasis in another way, such as by saying “all support.”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / hyperbole

כֹּ֚ל מִשְׁעַן־לֶ֔חֶם וְכֹ֖ל מִשְׁעַן־מָֽיִם

all supplies_of food/grain/bread and=all/each/any/every supplies_of water

Isaiah says all supply of bread and all supply of water as an extreme statement for emphasis. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a different way to express the emphasis. Alternate translation: [the entire supply of bread and water]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / litany

כֹּ֚ל מִשְׁעַן־לֶ֔חֶם וְכֹ֖ל מִשְׁעַן־מָֽיִם

all supplies_of food/grain/bread and=all/each/any/every supplies_of water

Isaiah uses a repetitive series of clauses from here to the end of verse 3 to communicate that what he is saying should be understood as comprehensive and overwhelming. Use a form in your language that someone would use to describe a situation that is comprehensive and overwhelming.
