OET (OET-LV)it_let_be known to_all you_all and to_all the people of_Israaʸl/(Yisrāʼēl), that in the name of_Yaʸsous chosen_one/messiah the from_Nazaret, whom you_all executed_on_a_stake, whom the god raised from the_dead, by this name this man has_stood_by before you_all healthy.

OET (OET-RV)then you all need to know, and the people of Yisrael should also know, that it was done under the authority and name of Yeshua the messiah. He was the man from Nazareth that you executed on a pole, but who God brought back to life. It was because of his authority that this man can now stand before you without deformity.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / imperative3p

γνωστὸν ἔστω πᾶσιν ὑμῖν καὶ παντὶ τῷ λαῷ Ἰσραὴλ

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: γνωστόν ἔστω πᾶσιν ὑμῖν καί παντί τῷ λαῷ Ἰσραήλ ὅτι ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ Ναζωραίου ὅν ὑμεῖς ἐσταυρώσατε ὅν ὁ Θεός ἤγειρεν ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐν τούτῳ οὗτος παρέστηκεν ἐνώπιον ὑμῶν ὑγιής)

If your language does not use the third-person imperative in this way, you could state this in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [may this be known to you and to all the people of Israel] or [this should be known to you and to all the people of Israel]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

γνωστὸν ἔστω πᾶσιν ὑμῖν καὶ παντὶ τῷ λαῷ Ἰσραὴλ

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: γνωστόν ἔστω πᾶσιν ὑμῖν καί παντί τῷ λαῷ Ἰσραήλ ὅτι ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ Ναζωραίου ὅν ὑμεῖς ἐσταυρώσατε ὅν ὁ Θεός ἤγειρεν ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐν τούτῳ οὗτος παρέστηκεν ἐνώπιον ὑμῶν ὑγιής)

The word translated known is an adjective, so this is not a passive verbal form. However, if your language does not use passive forms, it might be clearer for your readers if you use an expression that does not seem to be a passive verbal form. The adjective known expresses the result of action by a different agent, so you can use an active form with that agent as the subject. Alternate translation: [you and all the people of Israel, know]

Note 3 topic: writing-pronouns

πᾶσιν ὑμῖν

˱to˲_all you_all

The pronoun you refers to the council members. Alternate translation: [to all of you council members] or [to all of you who are questioning us]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι

in the name

Here, name refers to power and authority. Alternate translation: [through the power] or [by the authority]

Note 5 topic: translate-names

Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ Ναζωραίου

˱of˲_Jesus Christ the Nazarene

See how you translated this in [2:22](../02/22.md) and [3:6](../03/06.md). Alternate translation: [of Jesus Christ of Nazareth]

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche

ὃν ὑμεῖς ἐσταυρώσατε

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: γνωστόν ἔστω πᾶσιν ὑμῖν καί παντί τῷ λαῷ Ἰσραήλ ὅτι ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ Ναζωραίου ὅν ὑμεῖς ἐσταυρώσατε ὅν ὁ Θεός ἤγειρεν ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐν τούτῳ οὗτος παρέστηκεν ἐνώπιον ὑμῶν ὑγιής)

It was the Romans who literally crucified Jesus, but Peter says that these Jewish leaders crucified him because their demands led to his death. See how you translated the similar expression in [2:23](../02/23.md). Alternate translation: [whom you demanded to be crucified]

Note 7 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

ὃν ὁ Θεὸς ἤγειρεν ἐκ νεκρῶν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: γνωστόν ἔστω πᾶσιν ὑμῖν καί παντί τῷ λαῷ Ἰσραήλ ὅτι ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ Ναζωραίου ὅν ὑμεῖς ἐσταυρώσατε ὅν ὁ Θεός ἤγειρεν ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐν τούτῳ οὗτος παρέστηκεν ἐνώπιον ὑμῶν ὑγιής)

As in [2:24](../02/24.md), the idiom raised up means that God made Jesus alive again after he died. Alternate translation: [whom God made alive again after he died]

Note 8 topic: figures-of-speech / nominaladj

ἐκ νεκρῶν

from ˓the˒_dead

Peter is using the adjective dead as a noun in order to indicate a group of people. Your language may use adjectives in the same way. If not, you could translate this word with an equivalent phrase. Alternate translation: [from among those who have died]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

4:1-22 Persecution was a common experience of God’s people throughout the Bible. God’s servants often faced hostility and opposition (Deut 30:7; 1 Kgs 18:13; Neh 4:1-3; Jer 37–38; Matt 23:34-37; Luke 11:49-51; 1 Thes 2:14-15). Jesus himself was persecuted (Luke 4:29; John 5:16), and he told his disciples to expect the same kind of treatment (Matt 10:23; 24:9; Mark 13:9; Luke 21:12; John 16:2), but he promised that the Holy Spirit would provide strength (Acts 1:8; Luke 12:11-12; 21:15). Acts records frequent times of persecution (Acts 4:3; 5:17-41; 7:54–8:3; 9:1-2; 11:19; 12:2; 13:50; 14:19; 16:19-24), but Acts also reiterates that the Holy Spirit empowers disciples to bear witness in such circumstances (2:44; 4:8-13; 6:10; 7:55). The boldness of Peter and John before the hostile high council exemplifies facing persecution with courage and power (4:20).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.

Acknowledgements: The SR Greek text, lemmas, morphology, and VLT gloss are all thanks to the CNTR.
