uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

and=he/it_said

This phrase probably refers to the same angel who spoke to Lot in verse 17. Make sure it does not sound like Lot is the one speaking here. Alternate translation: “The angel said”

הִנֵּה֙

see/lo/see!

Alternate translation: “Listen,” or “Here is what I will do:”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

נָשָׂ֣אתִי פָנֶ֔יךָ גַּ֖ם לַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה

grant favor,you also/yet to=the_word/thing/matter the=this

Consider what is the best way in your language to translate the idiom lifted up your face here. Alternate translation: “I will grant your request,” or “I will permit you to do what you have requested,”

לְבִלְתִּ֛י הָפְכִּ֥י

to=not overthrow,I

Alternate translation: “so I will not overturn”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / infostructure

אֶת הָעִ֖יר אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּֽרְתָּ

DOM the=city which/who spoken

For some languages it may be clearer or more natural to put this clause earlier in the sentence and say, “I will allow you to go to the small town that you are talking about, and I will not destroy it.” Do what is best in your language. Alternate translation: “the small town that you mentioned.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

19:1-38 The Canaanites were an evil, corrupting people. God judged their morally bankrupt civilization and warned others against becoming like them. It was difficult to get Lot and his family out of Sodom; it was more difficult to get Sodom out of Lot and his family. This chapter helped later Israelites to understand the moral and spiritual threat of the peoples living in and around the Promised Land, such as the Canaanites and Lot’s descendants, the Moabites and the Ammonites (see Num 22–25; Deut 23:3-6; Josh 24:9; Judg 10:7-9; 11:4-5; 1 Sam 10:27; 1 Kgs 11:1-3; 2 Kgs 24:2).
