UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

(Occurrence 0) By coercion and judgment he was condemned

(Some words not found in UHB: by,oppression and,of,judgment taken_away and=DOM generation,his who? considered that/for/because/then/when cut_off from,land life(pl) for,transgression people,my stricken to_them, )

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “They treated him harshly, judged him, and condemned him”

(Occurrence 0) coercion

(Some words not found in UHB: by,oppression and,of,judgment taken_away and=DOM generation,his who? considered that/for/because/then/when cut_off from,land life(pl) for,transgression people,my stricken to_them, )

The Hebrew word translated here as “coercion” is interpreted by some versions as “arrest.” For these versions, the thought is that the Servant will be arrested and then judged and condemned.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

(Occurrence 0) who from that generation thought anymore about him?

(Some words not found in UHB: by,oppression and,of,judgment taken_away and=DOM generation,his who? considered that/for/because/then/when cut_off from,land life(pl) for,transgression people,my stricken to_them, )

This question emphasizes that no one thinks about him. Alternate translation: “no one from his generation cared what happened to him.” or “no one among his contemporaries cared what happened to him.”

Many versions interpret this passage in Hebrew differently: “Who can say anything about his descendants?” or “Who can say anything about his fate?”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

(Occurrence 0) But he was cut off from the land of the living

(Some words not found in UHB: by,oppression and,of,judgment taken_away and=DOM generation,his who? considered that/for/because/then/when cut_off from,land life(pl) for,transgression people,my stricken to_them, )

“Cut off” here refers to death. If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “But he died” or “But death took him away” (See also: figs-idiom)

(Occurrence 0) of my people

(Some words not found in UHB: by,oppression and,of,judgment taken_away and=DOM generation,his who? considered that/for/because/then/when cut_off from,land life(pl) for,transgression people,my stricken to_them, )
