Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed for doing comparisons of different translations. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

אָנֹכִ֗י אֵרֵ֤ד עִמְּךָ֙ מִצְרַ֔יְמָה

I go_down with,you Egypt,to

Consider what is the best way to translate the emphatic pronoun I here and in the next clause. Also see how you translated down and up in Gen 45:9. Alternate translation: “I personally will go with you to Egypt,”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

וְאָנֹכִ֖י אַֽעַלְךָ֣ גַם עָלֹ֑ה

and,I bring_~_up,you also/even to_go_up

The pronoun you refers here to Jacob’s descendants.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / euphemism

וְיוֹסֵ֕ף יָשִׁ֥ית יָד֖וֹ עַל עֵינֶֽיךָ

and,Joseph place his/its=hand on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in eyes,your

This clause refers to the custom of closing a person’s eyes after he died and means that Joseph would be with Jacob when he died. Alternate translation: “And when you die, Joseph will be right there to close your eyes.”
