UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

(Occurrence 0) Where then are your wise men?

(Some words not found in UHB: where,they? then wise,your and,tell now to/for=you(fs) and,known what? planned YHWH armies/angels on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in Miʦrayim/(Egypt) )

Isaiah uses a question to mock the wise men. The word “your” refers to Pharaoh. Alternate translation: “You do not have any wise men.” or “Your wise men are fools.”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / irony

(Occurrence 0) Let them tell you and make known what Yahweh of hosts plans concerning Egypt

(Some words not found in UHB: where,they? then wise,your and,tell now to/for=you(fs) and,known what? planned YHWH armies/angels on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in Miʦrayim/(Egypt) )

Isaiah is implying that wise men should be able to understand God’s plans, but Isaiah does not really believe they are wise. Alternate translation: “If they were really wise, they would be able to tell you what Yahweh of hosts plans concerning Egypt”
