Some ancient manuscripts read Noph. The ULT follows that reading. Other ancient manuscripts read “Memphis.” If a translation of the Bible exists in your region, you may wish to use the reading that it uses. If a translation of the Bible does not exist in your region, you may wish to use the reading of the ULT.

Here Isaiah is speaking as if the leaders of Egypt’s tribes were the cornerstone of a building. He means that these leaders should have been the strong foundation of their people, but instead they have led Egypt astray. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [leaders who should have been the strong foundation of its tribes]
