TSNTyndale Study Notes:

31:12 The restored community would enjoy the Lord’s good gifts. The people could expect abundant crops to spring forth in the fields with no appeal to Baal. The sorrows of their exile would be cast off, and the returnees could expect to be fruitful, like a watered garden.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) on the heights of Zion

(Some words not found in UHB: and,come and,shout_for_joy in/on/at/with,height Tsiyyōn/(Zion) and,radiant to/towards goodness YHWH on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in grain and,over new_wine and,over oil and,over sons_of flock_of_sheep/goats and,herd and,be life,their like,garden watered and=not they_will_do_again to,languish again/more )

“on Zion, the high place” or “on Mount Zion.” Being on top of a hill is a metaphor for being happy. If your language associates mountain tops with sadness, it would be best to leave out the metaphor.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / simile

(Occurrence 0) like a watered garden

(Some words not found in UHB: and,come and,shout_for_joy in/on/at/with,height Tsiyyōn/(Zion) and,radiant to/towards goodness YHWH on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in grain and,over new_wine and,over oil and,over sons_of flock_of_sheep/goats and,herd and,be life,their like,garden watered and=not they_will_do_again to,languish again/more )

This means they will be strong and healthy, and they will prosper.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / hyperbole

(Occurrence 0) they will never again feel any more sorrow

(Some words not found in UHB: and,come and,shout_for_joy in/on/at/with,height Tsiyyōn/(Zion) and,radiant to/towards goodness YHWH on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in grain and,over new_wine and,over oil and,over sons_of flock_of_sheep/goats and,herd and,be life,their like,garden watered and=not they_will_do_again to,languish again/more )

The world “never” is a generalization. The Israelites will almost always feel joy.
