TSNTyndale Study Notes:

43:8-10 Judah broke the deadlock by taking responsibility for Benjamin’s well-being, thus succeeding where Reuben failed. His action was fitting, since it had been his idea to sell Joseph to the Ishmaelites (37:26-27) instead of killing him. Now he would secure Benjamin’s safety with his own life (see 44:18-34).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוּדָ֜ה אֶל יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל אָבִ֗יו

and=he/it_said Yehuda to/towards Yisrael his/its=father

For some languages it is necessary to make “Benjamin” explicit here in the quote margin so that it is clear that young man refers to him in the following quote. Do what is best in your language.

שִׁלְחָ֥ה הַנַּ֛עַר אִתִּ֖י

send, the,boy with,me

See how you translated young man in Gen 37:2; 41:12. Use a term here in your language that fits with the fact that Benjamin was probably in his 30’s. Alternate translation: “Allow the young man to come with me and I will watch over him”

וְנָק֣וּמָה וְנֵלֵ֑כָה

and,arise and,go

Alternate translation: “so we can leave right away to buy grain in Egypt”

וְנִֽחְיֶה֙ & גַּם אֲנַ֥חְנוּ גַם אַתָּ֖ה גַּם טַפֵּֽנוּ

and,live & also/yet we also/even you(ms) also/yet little_ones,our

Consider whether or not it is better to begin a new sentence here in your language. Also, see how you translated will live and not die in Gen 42:2. Alternate translation: “Then all of us, including our children, will survive” or “… can stay alive”

וְלֹ֣א נָמ֔וּת

and=not die

Alternate translation: “and not die from hunger.”
