UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

וְנִשְׁבַּ֤ת מִבְצָר֙ מֵֽאֶפְרַ֔יִם

and,it_will_cease fortified_city from,Ephraim

The expression will be ceased is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [And fortification will cease from Ephraim]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

וְנִשְׁבַּ֤ת מִבְצָר֙ מֵֽאֶפְרַ֔יִם

and,it_will_cease fortified_city from,Ephraim

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of fortification, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [And Ephraim will no longer have fortified cities]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

וּמַמְלָכָ֥ה מִדַּמֶּ֖שֶׂק

and,kingship from,Damascus

Isaiah is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [and enemies will destroy the kingdom whose capital is Damascus]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / simile

וּשְׁאָ֣ר אֲרָ֑ם כִּכְב֤וֹד בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ יִֽהְי֔וּ

and,the_remnant_of ʼArām like,the_glory_of sons_of Yisrael be

The point of this comparison is that just as the glory of the sons of Israel will be diminished, so the remnant of Aram will also lose what made them great. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this point explicitly. Alternate translation: [And the remnant of Aram will lose their greatness just as the sons of Israel will lose their glory]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

כִּכְב֤וֹד

like,the_glory_of

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of glory, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [like how glorious are]

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

sons_of Yisrael

Isaiah is speaking as if the people of Israel were actually the sons of the patriarch Israel. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [the descendants of Israel] or [the people of Israel]
