UTNuW Translation Notes:

(Occurrence 0) Yahweh of hosts says this

(Some words not found in UHB: thus he/it_had_said YHWH armies/angels behold,I send in/on/at/with,them DOM the=drought//sword/knife DOM the,famine and=DOM the,plague and,make DOM,them like_the,figs the,rotten which/who not eaten because,bad )

Jeremiah often uses these words to introduce an important message from Yahweh. See how you translated this in Jeremiah 6:6.

(Occurrence 0) See

(Some words not found in UHB: thus he/it_had_said YHWH armies/angels behold,I send in/on/at/with,them DOM the=drought//sword/knife DOM the,famine and=DOM the,plague and,make DOM,them like_the,figs the,rotten which/who not eaten because,bad )

This alerts the reader to pay attention to what follows. Alternate translation: “Look” or “Listen” or “Pay attention”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) I am about to send sword, famine, and disease on them

(Some words not found in UHB: thus he/it_had_said YHWH armies/angels behold,I send in/on/at/with,them DOM the=drought//sword/knife DOM the,famine and=DOM the,plague and,make DOM,them like_the,figs the,rotten which/who not eaten because,bad )

The word “sword” is a metonym for war. Alternate translation: “I am going to punish them by having them die in war, from hunger, and from illness”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / simile

(Occurrence 0) For I will make them like rotten figs that are too bad to be eaten

Rotten figs are useless because they cannot be eaten, and Yahweh sees no use for the people of Israel.
