BrTrWoe to them that deepen their counsel, and not by the Lord. Woe to them that take secret counsel, and whose works [fn]are in darkness, and they say, Who has seen us? and who shall know us, or what we do?

ULTWoe, those burying deeply
 ⇔ to hide a plan from Yahweh,
 ⇔ and in darkness are their deeds, and they say,
 ⇔ “Who sees us, and who knows us?”

USTTerrible things will happen to those who try to conceal from me, Yahweh,
 ⇔ the evil things that they plan to do;
 ⇔ they do those deeds in the darkness
 ⇔ and they think, ‘Yahweh certainly cannot see us;
 ⇔ he cannot know what we are doing!’

FBVTragedy is coming to people who take such trouble to hide their plans from the Lord. They work in the dark and say to themselves, “Nobody can see us, can they? Nobody will know, will they?”
