Isaiah actually means to communicate the opposite of what he is saying. He is not truly commanding the people to blind themselves and be amazed. Rather, he is condemning them for their willful refusal to understand. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [You stubbornly refuse to understand, and you have blinded yourselves]

Many ancient manuscripts read Make yourselves wait. The ULT follows that reading. Other ancient manuscripts read “Amaze yourselves.” If a translation of the Bible exists in your region, you may wish to use the reading that it uses. If a translation of the Bible does not exist in your region, you may wish to use the reading of the ULT. Alternate translation: [Stop and be amazed]

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of amazement, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [and be amazed]

Isaiah is speaking as if the people’s spiritual stupor were them being drunk on wine and staggering from beer. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [They are confused and disoriented, but not because of wine or beer]

The pronoun They refers to the same people whom Isaiah was addressing with the commands in the first part of the verse. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [The people of Jerusalem are drunk]
