BrTrAnd every mountain shall be certainly ploughed: there shall no fear come thither: for there shall be from among the barren ground and thorns that whereon cattle shall feed and oxen shall tread.

ULTAnd all the hills that were cultivated with the hoe,
⇔ you will not go there for fear of the briers and thorns,
⇔ and it will be for sending out of cattle and for grazing of sheep.

USTNo one will go to where there previously were gardens on fertile hillsides, because briers and thorns will cover those hillsides. They will be areas where only a few cattle and sheep and goats wander around searching for something to eat.

BSBFor fear of the briers and thorns, you will no longer traverse the hills once tilled by the hoe; they will become places for oxen to graze and sheep to trample.

OEBFear of thorns and briers will hold men afar
⇔ from the hills that used to be hoed with the hoe.
⇔ There cattle will wander and sheep will tread.

WEBBEAll the hills that were cultivated with the hoe, you shall not come there for fear of briers and thorns; but it shall be for the sending out of oxen, and for sheep to tread on.”

WMBB (Same as above)

NETThey will stay away from all the hills that were cultivated, for fear of the thorns and briers. Cattle will graze there and sheep will trample on them.

LSVAnd all the hills that are kept in order with a mattock,
There does not come [for] fear of brier and thorn,
And it has been for the sending forth of ox,
And for the treading of sheep!

FBVIn fact, all the hills that were once tilled by the hoe you won't want to go to because you'll worry about the brambles and thorns there. They'll just be where cattle are let loose and where sheep roam.

T4TNo one will go to where there previously were gardens on fertile hillsides, because briers and thorns will cover those hillsides. They will be areas where only a few cattle and sheep and goats wander around searching for something to eat.

LEBAnd as for all of the hills that they hoed with the hoe, you will not go there, for fear of briers[fn] and thornbushes.[fn] And it will become like pastureland for cattle and overtrodden land for sheep.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

7:1-25 At one point in his reign, Ahaz found himself in a crisis. The leaders of Syria and Israel attacked Judah. They planned to replace Ahaz and force Judah to join them in their resistance against Assyria. Ahaz responded by calling Assyria in to help him (2 Kgs 16:7-10), thus refusing Isaiah’s challenge to trust the Lord instead (Isa 7:12). Although the Assyrians squelched the alliance of Syria and Israel, leading to the eventual downfall of both those nations, they also soon set their sights on total domination of Judah.
