UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

וַיִּשַּׁ֥ח אָדָ֖ם

and,he_has_been_humbled humankind

The expression a human will be humbled is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [God will humble a human]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

וְעֵינֵ֥י גְבֹהִ֖ים

and_[the],eyes_of haughty

Here, the eyes represents the perception and pride of arrogant people. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [and the arrogance of the haughty]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / nominaladj

גְבֹהִ֖ים

haughty

Isaiah is using the adjective haughty as a noun to mean a certain kind of person. Your language may use adjectives in the same way. If not, you can translate this adjective with an equivalent phrase. Alternate translation: [proud people]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

וַיִּשַּׁ֥ח אָדָ֖ם וַיִּשְׁפַּל־אִ֑ישׁ וְעֵינֵ֥י גְבֹהִ֖ים תִּשְׁפַּֽלְנָה

and,he_has_been_humbled humankind and,he_has_become_low (a)_man and_[the],eyes_of haughty humbled

These three phrases mean basically the same thing. Isaiah is using them together for emphasis. If it would be clearer for your readers, you could combine these phrases. Alternate translation: [All people will be humbled and brought very low]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / gendernotations

וַיִּשַּׁ֥ח אָדָ֖ם וַיִּשְׁפַּל־אִ֑ישׁ

and,he_has_been_humbled humankind and,he_has_become_low (a)_man

Here the masculine terms a human and a man have a generic sense that includes both men and women. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use language in your translation that is clearly inclusive of both men and women. Alternate translation: [And people will be humbled, and men and women will become low]
