TSNTyndale Study Notes:

5:1-30 The prophet pronounced judgment through song (5:1-7) and prophecies of woe (5:8-30). Although Israel’s future condition would be one of purity and fellowship with God (4:2-6), that future cannot ignore the present sinful condition of the people and their leaders.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

(Occurrence 0) tire … stumble … slumbers … sleeps

(Some words not found in UHB: not weary and, none stumbles in/on/over=him/it not slumbers and=not sleeps and=not untie/release belt waist, its and=not broken strap sandal, his )

These four words progress from being tired from work to being unable to walk well, to being unable to stay awake, to full sleep, so all four should appear in the translation.

(Occurrence 0) Nor are their belts loose

(Some words not found in UHB: not weary and, none stumbles in/on/over=him/it not slumbers and=not sleeps and=not untie/release belt waist, its and=not broken strap sandal, his )

The soldiers kept their clothes tight so it would easier to move and fight.

(Occurrence 0) the thongs of their sandals

(Some words not found in UHB: not weary and, none stumbles in/on/over=him/it not slumbers and=not sleeps and=not untie/release belt waist, its and=not broken strap sandal, his )

Alternate translation: “the straps of their sandals”
