Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible—click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed as a tool for Bible-translators and others doing comparisons of different translations—the older translations are further down the page (so you can read up from the bottom to trace the English translation history). The OET segments on this page are still early looks into the drafted texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible—please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

לְמַעֲנִ֧י לְמַעֲנִ֛י אֶעֱשֶׂ֖ה כִּ֣י אֵ֣יךְ יֵחָ֑ל וּכְבוֹדִ֖י לְאַחֵ֥ר לֹֽא אֶתֵּֽן
for,my_own_sake for,my_own_sake do that/for/because/then/when how profaned and,glory_of,my to,another not give
The word translated as For indicates that what follows is a reason for what comes after it. Use a connector in your language that makes it clear that what follows is a reason for what comes after it. Alternate translation: [I will do this for my sake, for my sake, because my name must not be profaned. And I will not give my glory to another]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / doublet
לְמַעֲנִ֧י לְמַעֲנִ֛י
for,my_own_sake for,my_own_sake
The terms For my sake and for my sake mean similar things. Yahweh is using the two terms together for emphasis. If it would be clearer for your readers, you could express the emphasis with a single phrase. Alternate translation: [Entirely for my sake]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion
כִּ֣י אֵ֣יךְ יֵחָ֑ל
that/for/because/then/when how profaned
Yahweh is using the question form to emphasize that he will not allow his name to be dishonored. If a speaker of your language would not use the question form for that purpose, you could translate this as a statement or as an exclamation. Alternate translation: [I will not allow my name to be profaned!]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
אֵ֣יךְ יֵחָ֑ל
how profaned
The expression be profaned is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [how should anyone profane it]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns
וּכְבוֹדִ֖י לְאַחֵ֥ר לֹֽא אֶתֵּֽן
and,glory_of,my to,another not give
If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of glory, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [And I will not let another receive the honor that belongs to me]
