UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / simile

יָתֵ֖ד בְּמָק֣וֹם נֶאֱמָ֑ן

peg in,a_place firm

The point of this comparison is that just as a peg driven into a firm place is secure and unmovable, so Eliakim will be secure in his position. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this point explicitly. Alternate translation: [like a peg securely fastened in a firm place]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

בְּמָק֣וֹם נֶאֱמָ֑ן

in,a_place firm

The expression made firm is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. If you need to say who does the action, the context indicates that it is God. Alternate translation: [into a place that I have made firm]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

וְהָיָ֛ה לְכִסֵּ֥א כָב֖וֹד לְבֵ֥ית אָבִֽיו

and=it_was (into)_a,seat_of honour for,the_house_of his/its=father

Here Yahweh is speaking of Eliakim bringing honor to his family as if he were a throne of glory. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [and he will bring great honor to the house of his father]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

לְכִסֵּ֥א כָב֖וֹד

(into)_a,seat_of honour

Yahweh is using the possessive form to describe a throne that is characterized by glory. If a speaker of your language would not use the possessive form for this, you could express this idea in another way. Alternate translation: [a glorious throne]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

לְבֵ֥ית אָבִֽיו

for,the_house_of his/its=father

Here Yahweh is speaking of Eliakim’s family as if they were a house. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [to the family of his father]
