TSNTyndale Study Notes:

30:32 tambourines and harps: Instruments formerly silenced in judgment (24:8) would again be used by God’s people; this time, the people would celebrate the Lord’s goodness rather than becoming spiritually complacent (see 5:12).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) Every stroke of the appointed rod that Yahweh will lay on them

(Some words not found in UHB: and=it_was all stroke_of staff_of punishment which/who lays YHWH on/upon/above=him/it in/on/at/with,tambourines and,in/on/at/with,lyres and,in/on/at/with,battles_of brandished_arm fight in/on/at/with,them )

Yahweh causing an army to defeat the Assyrians is spoken of as if Yahweh would hit the Assyrians with a rod.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

(Occurrence 0) will be accompanied

(Some words not found in UHB: and=it_was all stroke_of staff_of punishment which/who lays YHWH on/upon/above=him/it in/on/at/with,tambourines and,in/on/at/with,lyres and,in/on/at/with,battles_of brandished_arm fight in/on/at/with,them )

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “the people of Judah will accompany it”

This is a musical instrument with a head like a drum that can be hit and with pieces of metal around the side that sound when the instrument is shaken. See how you translated this in [Isaiah 5:12](../05/12.md).

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) he battles and fights with them

(Some words not found in UHB: and=it_was all stroke_of staff_of punishment which/who lays YHWH on/upon/above=him/it in/on/at/with,tambourines and,in/on/at/with,lyres and,in/on/at/with,battles_of brandished_arm fight in/on/at/with,them )

Yahweh causing the enemy army to defeat the Assyrians is spoken of as if Yahweh were a warrior who would fight along with the enemy army.
