Structure and Formatting

Isaiah 30 presents the fourth of the six woe oracles in Part Four of the book. These oracles rebuke the leaders and people of Judah for depending on Egypt instead of trusting in Yahweh for protection against Assyria. This fourth oracle has these sections: 1. The Judeans will be ashamed for rebelliously sending ambassadors to Egypt (1–5) 2. It is useless for the Judeans to send gifts dangerously through the desert to Egypt (6–7) 3. The Judeans will suffer defeat and disaster for rebelling against Yahweh (8–17) 4. Yahweh will graciously restore the Judeans if they return to him (18–26) 5. Yahweh will powerfully defeat the Assyrians (27–33)
