UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

נִקְבְּצ֣וּ יַחְדָּ֗ו

gather together

The expression gathered together is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [have come together]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

וְיֵאָֽסְפוּ֙ לְאֻמִּ֔ים

and,they_gather peoples

The expression assembled is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [and the peoples have come together]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

כָּֽל־הַגּוֹיִ֞ם נִקְבְּצ֣וּ יַחְדָּ֗ו וְיֵאָֽסְפוּ֙ לְאֻמִּ֔ים

(Some words not found in UHB: all/each/any/every the=nations gather together and,they_gather peoples who? in/among=them declare this(f) and,former_[things] will,they_proclaim_to_us? bring witnesses_of,their so,that_they_may_be_justified and,let_them_hear and,let_them_say true )

These two clauses mean basically the same thing. The second emphasizes the meaning of the first by repeating the same idea with different words. Hebrew poetry was based on this kind of repetition, and you may want to show this to your readers by including both phrases in your translation. If it is helpful, you could connect the phrases in a way that shows that the second phrase is repeating the first one, not saying something additional. Alternate translation: [All of the nations are gathered together; indeed, the peoples are assembled]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

מִ֤י בָהֶם֙ יַגִּ֣יד זֹ֔את וְרִֽאשֹׁנ֖וֹת יַשְׁמִיעֻ֑נוּ

who? in/among=them declare this(f) and,former_[things] will,they_proclaim_to_us?

Yahweh is using the question form to emphasize that none of the nations’ gods declared these events beforehand. If a speaker of your language would not use the question form for that purpose, you could translate this as a statement or as an exclamation. Alternate translation: [None of them declared this, and they did not make predictions that were true]

Note 5 topic: writing-pronouns

מִ֤י בָהֶם֙

who? in/among=them

The pronoun them refers to the nations and the peoples. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [Who among these nations and peoples]

Note 6 topic: writing-pronouns

יַשְׁמִיעֻ֑נוּ

will,they_proclaim_to_us?

The pronoun they refers to the nations. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [the nations made us hear]

Note 7 topic: grammar-connect-logic-goal

וְיִצְדָּ֔קוּ

so,that_they_may_be_justified

Here, that marks they may be righteous as the goal or purpose of bringing their witnesses. Use a connector in your language that makes it clear that this is the purpose.

Note 8 topic: figures-of-speech / quotations

וְיֹאמְר֥וּ אֱמֶֽת

and,let_them_say true

If it would be more natural in your language, you could express this as an indirect quotation. Alternate translation: [that they may say that it is true]
