TSNTyndale Study Notes:

65:17 The new heavens and new earth will be a place of righteousness (see also 2 Pet 3:13; Rev 21). Paul described those who believe in Christ as already being part of the new creation (see 2 Cor 5:17; Gal 6:15).

TTNTyndale Theme Notes:

The New Order

Isaiah differentiates the old order, the present world of human powers and pressures, from the new order, a new creation where justice and harmony triumph.

The old order evokes memories of weeping (65:19), death (65:20), oppression and violence (65:21-22), and the absence of God (65:24). It is characterized by human power and pride.

Isaiah’s vision of the new order centers on the Lord as the Great King in his holiness and glory (see 6:1-5). God’s people experience aspects of the new order in this life, such as God’s comfort (40:1), salvation (45:22), joy (24:14-15), righteousness (24:16), peace (26:3), divine blessing, and protection. Other dimensions lie beyond our experience: the end of death (25:7-8); the resurrection (26:19); the cessation of enmity, corruption, and evil (60:18; 65:25); the full enjoyment of God’s presence (60:19); and God’s uncontested rule in his eternal kingdom (see Rev 21–22). These are things that those who trust in God look forward to in the coming age.

(Occurrence 0) For see

(Some words not found in UHB: that/for/because/then/when behold,I create heavens new and, earth new and=not remembered the, former and=not come on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in mind )

Alternate translation: “Notice! Pay attention!”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / merism

(Occurrence 0) new heavens and a new earth

(Some words not found in UHB: that/for/because/then/when behold,I create heavens new and, earth new and=not remembered the, former and=not come on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in mind )

Both are extremes that also represent everything between.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

(Occurrence 0) the former things will not be remembered or be brought to mind

(Some words not found in UHB: that/for/because/then/when behold,I create heavens new and, earth new and=not remembered the, former and=not come on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in mind )

Both of these clauses mean the same thing and are combined for emphasis. If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “you will not even think about what happened in the past” (See also: figs-activepassive)
