TSNTyndale Study Notes:

49:8 God acts at just the right time to accomplish his purposes (Acts 1:7; 2 Cor 6:2). Israel returned to reestablish the land of Israel after the Exile. The land was restored and the city rebuilt beginning with Cyrus’s edict (Isa 44:26-28).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

(Occurrence 0) At a time I decide to show my favor I will answer you, and in a day of salvation I will help you

(Some words not found in UHB: thus he/it_had_said YHWH in/on/at/with,time favour answered,you and,in/on/at/with,day salvation helped,you and,keep,you and,given,you as,covenant people to,restore earth/land to,apportion heritages desolate )

These two clauses mean basically the same thing.

(Occurrence 0) I will answer you

(Some words not found in UHB: thus he/it_had_said YHWH in/on/at/with,time favour answered,you and,in/on/at/with,day salvation helped,you and,keep,you and,given,you as,covenant people to,restore earth/land to,apportion heritages desolate )

Here “you” refers to Yahweh’s servant.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

(Occurrence 0) in a day of salvation

(Some words not found in UHB: thus he/it_had_said YHWH in/on/at/with,time favour answered,you and,in/on/at/with,day salvation helped,you and,keep,you and,given,you as,covenant people to,restore earth/land to,apportion heritages desolate )

The word “salvation” can be translated as a verb. Alternate translation: “when the time comes for me to save you”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) give you as a covenant for the people

(Some words not found in UHB: thus he/it_had_said YHWH in/on/at/with,time favour answered,you and,in/on/at/with,day salvation helped,you and,keep,you and,given,you as,covenant people to,restore earth/land to,apportion heritages desolate )

Here the word “covenant” is a metonym for the one who establishes or mediates a covenant. See how you translated a similar phrase in Isaiah 42:6. Alternate translation: “make you be the mediator of a covenant with the people”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) to rebuild the land

(Some words not found in UHB: thus he/it_had_said YHWH in/on/at/with,time favour answered,you and,in/on/at/with,day salvation helped,you and,keep,you and,given,you as,covenant people to,restore earth/land to,apportion heritages desolate )

Here the word “land” represents the cities in the land that had been destroyed. Alternate translation: “to rebuild the ruined places in the land”

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) to reassign the desolate inheritance

(Some words not found in UHB: thus he/it_had_said YHWH in/on/at/with,time favour answered,you and,in/on/at/with,day salvation helped,you and,keep,you and,given,you as,covenant people to,restore earth/land to,apportion heritages desolate )

Yahweh speaks of the land as if it were an inheritance that the people of Israel received as a permanent possession. It is implied that the servant is to reassign the land to the people of Israel. Alternate translation: “to reassign the desolate land to the people of Israel as their inheritance” (See also: figs-explicit)
