uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

כִּ֣י הַ֭שָּׁתוֹת יֵֽהָרֵס֑וּן צַ֝דִּ֗יק מַה־פָּעָֽל

(Some words not found in UHB: that/for/because/then/when the, foundations they,will_be_torn_down law-abiding/just what? do )

The speaker is using the question form to emphasize that the righteous cannot do anything if the foundations of society are destroyed. If your language would not use the question form for that purpose, you could translate this as a statement. [If the foundations are destroyed, the righteous can do nothing.] or [If the foundations are destroyed, there is nothing the righteous can do.]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

כִּ֣י הַ֭שָּׁתוֹת יֵֽהָרֵס֑וּן צַ֝דִּ֗יק מַה־פָּעָֽל

(Some words not found in UHB: that/for/because/then/when the, foundations they,will_be_torn_down law-abiding/just what? do )

This question is the end of what people are saying to David, which he uses the question form in verses 1–3 to challenge. If you chose in verse 1 to represent his challenge as a statement or exclamation, end this with a period or exclamation point.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

הַ֭שָּׁתוֹת יֵֽהָרֵס֑וּן

(Some words not found in UHB: that/for/because/then/when the, foundations they,will_be_torn_down law-abiding/just what? do )

Here the psalmist is speaking as if the principles of justice and morality were actually foundations of a building. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [the principles of justice and morality are destroyed] or [the moral order has broken down]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / nominaladj

צַ֝דִּ֗יק

(Some words not found in UHB: that/for/because/then/when the, foundations they,will_be_torn_down law-abiding/just what? do )

See how you translated the phrase the righteous in [1:5](../001/005.md). Alternate translation: [righteous people]
