General Information:

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

my rock

(Some words not found in UHB: of,David blessed YHWH rock,my the,trains hands,my for_THE,war fingers,my for_the,battle )

This could mean: (1) “the one who keeps me safe” or (2) “the one who gives me strength”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche

who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle

(Some words not found in UHB: of,David blessed YHWH rock,my the,trains hands,my for_THE,war fingers,my for_the,battle )

The words “hands” and “fingers” are synecdoches for “me.” If “war” and “battle” are the same word in your language, you can translate this as one line. Alternate translation: “who trains me for war and trains me for battle” or “who trains me for war” (See also: figs-doublet and figs-ellipsis)

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

Ps 144 This lament begins with an exclamation of love for the Lord. The community then reflects on the transitory nature of life (144:3-4). The psalmist prays for divine intervention and anticipates victory (144:5-11). A new song (144:9-10) and a prayer for rescue (144:11) open up the theme of the Lord’s blessing through his provisions and protection (144:12-15).
