David actually means to communicate the opposite of the literal meaning of what he is saying here. While Doeg had caused great harm by killing all of Yahweh’s priests and their families ([1 Samuel 22:18–19](../1sa/22/18.md)), those were harmless, defenseless people, so this was not the kind of feat that a true warrior would boast about. If a speaker of your language would not say the opposite of what he meant as a way of showing how he felt about what he was saying, you could translate the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [Why do you boast about killing defenseless people as if that made you a great warrior?]

Here and through verse 5, David addresses Doeg directly, even though he knows Doeg cannot hear him. He is doing this to communicate to himself and to anyone who hears this song that he feels very strongly about how Doeg killed the priests of Yahweh. If it would be helpful in your language, here and through verse 5 you could translate what David says to Doeg as if he were speaking to other people about him. Alternate translation: [Doeg should not boast about killing defenseless people as if that made him great warrior!]
