uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / merism

מַשְׁכִּ֪ימֵי ק֡וּם מְאַֽחֲרֵי־שֶׁ֗בֶת

(Some words not found in UHB: in_vain to/for=you(pl) early_of rise_up late_of stay_up eating_of food/grain/bread of_(the),hard_labors yes/correct/thus/so he/it_gave to,his_beloved_of,[one] sleep )

Solomon is referring to all of a person’s working time by naming two extremes, the ones rising early to get up and the ones being late to sit down. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [the ones working from early morning until late at night]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

אֹ֭כְלֵי לֶ֣חֶם הָעֲצָבִ֑ים

eating_of food/grain/bread of_(the),hard_labors

Solomon is speaking of working hard to raise the food that people eat as if it were bread of toils. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [those toiling to earn your food]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

לֶ֣חֶם הָעֲצָבִ֑ים

food/grain/bread of_(the),hard_labors

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of toils, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [bread gained by toiling]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

לֶ֣חֶם הָעֲצָבִ֑ים

food/grain/bread of_(the),hard_labors

Solomon is using the possessive form to describe bread that is characterized by toils. If a speaker of your language would not use the possessive form for this, you could express this idea in another way. Alternate translation: [bread earned through hard work]

Note 5 topic: writing-pronouns

כֵּ֤ן יִתֵּ֖ן לִֽידִיד֣וֹ שֵׁנָֽא

(Some words not found in UHB: in_vain to/for=you(pl) early_of rise_up late_of stay_up eating_of food/grain/bread of_(the),hard_labors yes/correct/thus/so he/it_gave to,his_beloved_of,[one] sleep )

The pronoun he refers to Yahweh, who is named in the previous verse. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [certainly Yahweh gives to his beloved one sleep]
