David continues to draw an extended comparison between his relationship with God and a shepherd caring for his sheep. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could explain the comparison. The phrase the ULT translates as the valley of deep darkness could be translated: (1) as the ULT does and refer to a dark valley or ravine. Alternate translation: [through a dark valley] or (2) as [the valley of the shadow of death.] Alternate translation: [through the valley of the shadow of death]

not fear evil

David is using the adjective evil as a noun to mean things that people might do to harm him. Your language may use adjectives in the same way. If not, you can translate this adjective with an equivalent phrase. Alternate translation: [I will fear no harm] or [I will fear no danger]
