The psalmist is using a phrase that expresses a strong feeling, distress, about his situation. There may be an equivalent word or phrase in your language that you can use in your translation to convey this feeling. If not, you could say what the psalmist was feeling. Alternate translation: [How miserable I am]

גַ֣רְתִּי מֶ֑שֶׁךְ שָׁ֝כַ֗נְתִּי עִֽם־אָהֳלֵ֥י קֵדָֽר

These two phrases mean basically the same thing. The second emphasizes the meaning of the first by repeating the same idea with different words. The places named both refer to the people who lived in those places who were considered barbarian or savage. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could combine them and express the emphasis in another way. Alternate translation: [I have lived for a long time among hostile people]
