uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche

let your ears be attentive

(Some words not found in UHB: my=master hear, in/on/at/with,voice_of,my be ears_of,your attentive to=sound/voice supplications_of,my )

The ears represent Yahweh, but because the author knows that Yahweh hears everything, he is really asking for Yahweh to respond. Alternate translation: “please listen” or “please respond”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

to my pleas for mercy

(Some words not found in UHB: my=master hear, in/on/at/with,voice_of,my be ears_of,your attentive to=sound/voice supplications_of,my )

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea behind the word mercy, you could express the same idea with a verbal form such as “merciful.” Alternate translation: “to my pleas and be merciful to me”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

Ps 130 Beginning with himself as a representative of the community, the psalmist cries for God’s mercy (130:1-3) out of deep distress. He places his hope in the Lord (130:4-6), knowing that the Lord will rescue when and as he chooses. Based on this confidence, the psalmist invites Israel to wait for the Lord (130:7-8).
