uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / simile

וַאֲנִ֤י ׀ כְּזַ֣יִת רַ֭עֲנָן בְּבֵ֣ית אֱלֹהִ֑ים

(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_will_see righteous and,they_will_fear and,on,him laugh )

The point of this comparison is that just as such a tree was secure and carefully tended, so God keeps David safe and cares for him. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this point explicitly. Alternate translation: [But I am secure and well cared for, like a green olive tree in the house of God]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

כְּזַ֣יִת רַ֭עֲנָן

(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_will_see righteous and,they_will_fear and,on,him laugh )

David is using the term green not to describe the color of this tree but to indicate that it is alive. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [like a living olive tree] or [like a thriving olive tree]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

בְּבֵ֣ית אֱלֹהִ֑ים

(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_will_see righteous and,they_will_fear and,on,him laugh )

David is speaking of God’s sanctuary as if it were actually a house in which he lived. He does not mean that the tree to which he is comparing himself is actually within the sanctuary itself. There was probably a courtyard around the tent that David set up for the Box of Yahweh ([2 Samuel 6:17](../2sa/06/17.md)), just as there was a courtyard around the temple that his son Solomon later built on the same site. In such courtyards there were trees that priests planted and tended. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [in the courtyard of the sanctuary of God]

בְחֶֽסֶד

(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_will_see righteous and,they_will_fear and,on,him laugh )

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of covenant faithfulness, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [in all the ways he is faithful to the covenant of]
