uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

They will be made to stumble

(Some words not found in UHB: and, shoot, them ʼElohīm arrow suddenly they_were wounded_of,them )

The writer speaks of God’s causing the evildoers’ plans to fail as if God were making them stumble in their paths. If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “God will make them stumble” or “God will cause their plans to fail” (See also: figs-activepassive)

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

since their own tongues are against them

(Some words not found in UHB: and, shoot, them ʼElohīm arrow suddenly they_were wounded_of,them )

Here “tongues” represents the words that they say. Alternate translation: “since the words that they say are against them”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

Ps 64 This lament decries the destructive plots and arrogant attitude of the wicked (64:1-6). The psalmist turns to God in prayer and takes heart in God’s justice because whatever the wicked do will be undone by the righteous judge. The godly will rejoice and grow in wisdom as they reflect on God’s mighty acts.
