These two phrases mean similar things. Translate them according to the decisions your team has made regarding translating parallelism in Hebrew poetry. Alternate translation: [He will cover you with his feathers, so you will be able to shelter under his wings] or [You will shelter under the cover of his wings]

The psalmist is speaking as if Yahweh were a bird and as if the individual he is addressing were one of its chicks. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [He will protect you the way a bird protects its chicks by covering them with its wings]

The psalmist is speaking as if Yahweh’s faithfulness were actually a shield and buckler. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [His faithfulness is dependable protection]

The word translated as rampart could refer to: (1) a wall around a city that would protect it from enemy attack. In that case, the psalmist would be using a shield that protected an individual soldier and a wall that protected an entire city to mean protection in general. Alternate translation: [His faithfulness is like military protection] or (2) a small shield. In that case, the psalmist would be using a large shield and a small shield together to mean all of the armor that a soldier would wear into battle. Alternate translation: [His faithfulness is like protective armor]
