The pronoun his may refer to God, but some Hebrew manuscripts and many translations understand it as my. This would make the psalmist say that God is my strength, which fits better with the context where he calls God my stronghold. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could clarify this. Alternate translation: [my strength] or [you, my strength]

The psalmist is speaking of God as if he were a stronghold, that is, a fortified place of safety. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent metaphor from your culture. Alternatively, you could express the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [God protects me] or [God is my place of safety]
