uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

Turn toward me

(Some words not found in UHB: turn to=me and,gracious,me give, strength_of,your to,servant_of,your and,save, to,son_of maidservant_of,your )

Asking God to consider him is spoken of as if he wanted God to turn and look at him.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

give your strength to your servant

(Some words not found in UHB: turn to=me and,gracious,me give, strength_of,your to,servant_of,your and,save, to,son_of maidservant_of,your )

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea behind the word strength, you could express the same idea with a verb or an adjective. Alternate translation: “strengthen your servant” or “make your servant strong”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / 123person

your servant & the son of your servant woman

(Some words not found in UHB: turn to=me and,gracious,me give, strength_of,your to,servant_of,your and,save, to,son_of maidservant_of,your )

The writer is speaking about himself in the third person.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

Ps 86 The psalmist invokes God’s help and praises his character in a lament prompted by the presence of evil (86:14, 17). All people will worship the gracious and almighty God (86:8-10). To this end, the poet commits himself to a lifestyle of ethical integrity (86:11) and praising the Lord (86:12-13). The last stanza contrasts the qualities of evil people with those of the Lord (86:14-17).
