Here the psalmist is speaking as if being conquered by enemies were having man ride over our head. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [You let our conquerors trample over us]

The psalmist is referring to all kinds of trials by naming two extremes, fire and waters. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [we went through every kind of danger]
